This piece was started over the Winter Solstice, way back in December, as an ode to the darkest day of winter, and the turning point where the light in Montana would slowly, minute by minute, make a comeback.
And then it sat. I knew I was onto magical things, but struggled with the construction. I wanted a pendant that manifested the mystery of a locket, without actually being one. I wanted to illustrate, in metal, a box of darkness, and not for the reasons you'd think.
I've amassed a fair bit to say about this piece, which you can see more of HERE.
Pendant is constructed of Sterling and Fine Silver, 14k Gold Fill, and a gorgeous tall free-form cut of Tourmalinated Quartz. Entire piece hangs from 24" box chain.
The 'door' of this piece is comprised of two hinge mechanisms, one for opening, and one for closing. The clasp 'snaps' shut over a nub of silver, sorta like a doorknob.
My signature is on the back, in a celestial sort of pattern, as nod to the Winter Solstice.
OOAK for 2022.
Tourmalinated Quartz is such an interesting stone. It's both clear Quartz, and 'rutiles' of Black Tourmaline suspended within. It is an excellent metaphysical power stone, often called the 'illumination stone', and is particularly powerful when working with negative energy, trauma response, and depression.
