The Storm Ring, from a moody Montana Sapphire in Gold and Silver!
Set in solid 14k Gold, this is a 6mm rose-cut Montana Sapphire in the prettiest dark blue, but in the right light, can be dark gray, periwinkle purple, hot blue, denim blue, and even peppery gray. The beauty of Montana Sapphires are that they tend to lean towards a color variation, and so any one stone can run the gamut of color, especially set in yellow gold! This stone reminds me of a stormy day near the ocean, hence her name.
Ring is cast OOAK Sterling Silver with a solid 14k Gold setting. Size 8.5 with my signature in the inside band. Band measures 7mm wide, 2.5mm thick. The inside of the band has a window of space for letting the light in the inside of the stone. Very comfortable and low profile for those active hands! I did my first real lost wax casting round in my basement last winter, and a few of the bands I carved made it out of the kiln. This band was one of them. It was a first, but definitely won't be the last!
Rose cuts are special in that they are a flat-bottomed stone cut more like a cabochon. Inspired by the Gregorian stonecutters in the 15th century, these are a nod to this antique aesthetic. These Montana Sapphires are dear to me, a true labor of love, as I worked hard to track down a US based cutter for these babies, and after some serendipity in Tucson a few years back, I was able to secure a source for these stones, cut exactly to my liking in Vancouver, WA. I am beyond excited to offer these stones from the Rock Creek drainage outside Philipsburg, MT, cut in Vancouver, WA, and set by these two hands in Whitefish, MT. USA made baby, mine to market!
