Russian Blues called my name before I even really knew what they were, where they came from, how they were made, or the fact that they're centuries old. I've written an entire melodrama over on the blog about this magic piece of history, this memento to the Moon. Peruse if you find this one calling to you, too.
Antique Russian Blue Trade Beads, strung to hang long from a handmade chain and clasp. Hollow form moons and silver mementos fabricated in Sterling Silver and Red Brass, plus one 'Tiny Spark' in 14k Gold Fill. My signature is stamped on the backs of various coins and moons, and also as a makers mark in celestial patterns hanging from the chain. Strung on heavy duty bead wire, double, for strength.
Entire piece measures 30" at her longest, slightly adjustable by 3" on the handmade chain. These particular antique Russian Blues were purchased from a local bead shop and pawn in our valley from trusted sellers, and we believe these to be a hearty collection of true Russian Blues, although they are not the more valuable (and vastly more expensive) Cobalt colored glass. I've strung them here as they were found and ordered on their raffia thread as purchased, in entirety. 71 beads in total, largest measures 10x12mm.
For more information on the wild variations of Bohemian glass and the beauty of Russian Blues, I have referenced 'Walker Goldsmiths' for many questions answered and an expert opinion. Also, the videos there have been invaluable, and fun to watch!
OOAK in reverence for the past, present, and our ever-present Moon in 2022.
